Last week we visited Rick Jakovich, the owner of Jacko Surfboards at Rick's impressive business premises outside Gracetown in WA's South West Region. The weather was perfect and folks were surfing along the coast. The occasion was to drop off an order of standup paddleboard (SUP) blanks for Rick.
Rick has been surfing and manufacturing boards for decades now. From wave to kite surfing, and the more recent SUP innovations, Rick has been there and has made boards for them all.
For those who may not know, most surf boards including those in this picture below are made using polystyrene cores that are precisely cut and sanded to shape before coating with resin to make the final product. You can imagine the skill and many hours that go into producing each of these specialty products. There are standard model boards in Rick's ranges, or he will custom make to your requirements.
