Foam Sales’ VVHX38 Polystyrene (X38) is a specialty grade of EPS. X38 is currently the highest density grade of EPS made in Australia. Foam Sales' X38 sheets, and custom profiles, are cut in our Perth WA Factory, with a standard lead time of 1 week. Prices are per m2 of thickness.
VVHX38 polystyrene is used primarily in the building and construction industries for thermal insulation under slab, on rooftops, and in applications where high load bearing capacity is required. X38 is used for formwork, and in specialty building applications. It can be used in office partitions, in place of heavy wood panels and linings, and wherever a relatively light-weight, strong, and economical board is required.
As with all EPS Sheets, this product has a closed cell structure, is impact absorbing and resilient. It has good thermal resistance, and a very high compressive strength to weight ratio. It is rigid, relatively light in weight, dust free when cut, and safe and easy to handle.
EPS X38 has superior moisture resistance, and is non-wicking in the case of surface damage in moist environments, making it a competitor for XPS boards in underslab insulation. Being cut from blocks (unlike XPS which is extruded to fixed thicknesses), X38 sheets are available in any thickness to meet Project requirements.
X38 boards remain dimensionally stable over time across temperature ranges from sub zero to 75°C. Ageing across decades has been shown to have little to no effect on the above-mentioned characteristics of EPS insulation boards.
EPS X38 boards are environmentally friendly, having low levels of embedded energy, consisting of 96% trapped air. They contain no CFCs. X38 is an inert, organic material, providing no nutritive value to plants, animals, or micro-organisms. It will not rot, and is highly resistant to mildew.
Foam Sales’ EPS X38 Boards contain fire retardant to AS2122.1 standard. This flame retardant additive is designed to inhibit accidental ignition by small flame sources. As with all organic material, insulation materials must be considered a fire hazard if improperly used or installed. The toxicity of gasses released in the burning of X38 polystyrene is less than is released in the burning of timber. Gasses released in combustion are predominantly carbon dioxide, and to a small extent, carbon monoxide. See our Data Sheet that includes our 50 year Warranty.
For all these reasons EPS X38 Boards are considered a specialty product for thermal insulation in building and construction projects that demand superior performance characteristics. On particular projects where product features similar to those found in XPS boards are required, EPS X38 boards are an excellent, and economic alternative. EPS X38 Boards can be used under-slab, and for rooftop insulation where stable thermal performance, long-term load-bearing, moisture resistance, and value for money are required.
X38 boards are supplied, and priced here by the square metre in a range of sheets sizes; currently 1450 x 1150mm, 1150 x 750mm, and 750 x 750mm. Where an alternative or specific sheet size is important, please enquire at our office with your preferred size. Sheet thickness starts from 20mm, up to any thickness, as required.
